Cubs' Maddon still believes in Wada

Published Jun. 12, 2015 12:57 a.m. ET

Tsuyoshi Wada has struggled over his past few outings, but Cubs manager Joe Maddon has not given up on his starter.

“That’s why he’s here in the first place,” Maddon told CSN Chicago. “A guy like that that doesn’t throw exceptionally hard, you need to trust what you’re doing out there."

The 34-year old left hander is in a bit of a slump and Maddon feels it is partially because he's favoring the hitters a bit too much.

“He needs to not give that much credit to the hitters,” Montero said. “It feels like he’s giving them too much credit and he falls behind … He needs to pitch to more contract.”
