Cubs C Montero leaves game vs White Sox with jammed thumb

Published Jul. 11, 2015 5:19 p.m. ET

CHICAGO (AP) Cubs catcher Miguel Montero has left their game against the White Sox because of a jammed left thumb.

Montero was hurt catching a pitch from Jon Lester on Saturday. He struck out swinging in the second and did not take the field in the third. Taylor Teagarden replaced him behind the plate.

Manager Joe Maddon was not sure how seriously Montero was injured. He was going for an MRI. Catcher David Ross has been medically cleared to return from a mild concussion, so he could be activated for Sunday's game.

Montero is batting .230 with 10 homers and 32 RBIs.
