Cruz injures hamstring, leaves Game 5
Texas Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz left Game 5 of the AL championship series Wednesday with tightness in his troublesome left hamstring.
Cruz was replaced in left field by David Murphy in the bottom of the fifth inning against the New York Yankees. He is day to day.
The slugger missed 51 games this season because of hamstring injuries that landed him on the disabled list three times. The last two were left hamstring strains, including his latest DL stint in August.
Cruz has been one of the Rangers' best hitters during their surprising playoff run. He came into the game batting .371 with four homers, four doubles and six RBIs in the postseason.
It was unclear if Cruz got hurt on a particular play. He hit a one-out double in the fourth but did not advance. He also charged hard on Jorge Posada's RBI single in the second and made a strong throw to the plate that was a little wide, allowing Alex Rodriguez to score standing up.
Texas had a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.
