Updated Mar. 5, 2020 1:04 a.m. ET

CLEVELAND (AP) Cleveland Indians catcher Roberto Perez will have surgery on his fractured right thumb on Friday.

Perez was injured while tagging a runner at the plate Saturday against Philadelphia. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list the following day when X-rays revealed the fracture.

Dr. Thomas Graham will perform the surgery, after which a timetable on how long Perez is excepted to be out will be announced.

Perez is hitless in eight at-bats and has drawn six walks in four games. He batted .228 with seven homers and 21 RBIs in 70 games last season.
