Bruised hand may keep Quentin out until Friday

Published Jul. 21, 2010 2:47 a.m. ET

The first-place Chicago White Sox are likely to be without hot-hitting slugger Carlos Quentin until Friday because of a bruised hand.

Manager Ozzie Guillen kept the right fielder, his 19 home runs and 64 RBIs out of the lineup for the second consecutive game at Seattle on Tuesday night.

Quentin bruised his right hand in the sixth inning Sunday at Minnesota.

Guillen says Quentin feels well enough to play, but the manager wants to get him ''fully recovered.''

Guillen didn't completely rule out using Quentin as a designated hitter in Wednesday's series finale. But Guillen added ''the best scenario would be to not play him at all'' in Seattle so he could continue resting through Thursday's travel day to Oakland.

Veteran Andruw Jones again started in right field.
