Former Royals outfielder Brian McRae was arrested early Friday on a drunk driving charge, the Kansas City Star reported.

McRae, 43, was pulled over on I-435 in Overland Park, Kansas, near Kansas City, at about 3 a.m. local time Friday. According to the report, McRae was booked and released later Friday morning.

It is McRae's third citation for driving under the influence, the Star reported. The first was in 1994, resulting in a conviction, and the second was in 2000, though he was cleared in that case.

McRae played in the majors from 1990-99, spending his first five seasons with the Royals, followed by three with the Cubs and three with the Mets. The speedy centerfielder was a career .261 hitter.
