MILWAUKEE (AP) Right-handed pitcher Donovan Hand cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A by the Brewers after being designated for assignment last week when the team signed free-agent reliever Francisco Rodriguez.

The team said Wednesday that Hand will have an invite to major league camp as a non-roster player when it opens spring training this weekend.

Hand went 1-5 with a 3.69 ERA in 68 1-3 innings in a solid rookie year last season. He pitched in 31 games, making seven starts.

Rodriguez signed a one-year, $3.25 million contract. The veteran will likely set up closer Jim Henderson.
