Blue Jays sign former Royals catcher Buck

The Toronto Blue Jays have signed catcher John Buck to a one- year, $2 million contract, the team announced Wednesday.

They Jays also said they have signed right-handed pitcher Lance Broadway to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Buck hit .247 with eight home runs and 36 RBIs in 59 games with the Kansas City Royals last season, his sixth in the majors. He has career numbers of .235 with 70 home runs and 259 RBI.

He hit a career-high 18 home runs in 2007.

Broadway, 26, spent the 2009 season between the Chicago White Sox and New York Mets organization. He was 5-9 with a 6.17 ERA in 17 starts and two relief appearances in Triple-A.
