Blue Jays promote Liam Hendriks, cut Esmil Rogers
TORONTO (AP) The Blue Jays have selected the contract of Liam Hendriks from Triple-A Buffalo and will give the Australian right-hander his first start of the season against Oakland, owner of the best record in the majors.
To make room for Hendriks on Friday, right-hander Esmil Rogers was designated for assignment.
The Blue Jays also pushed right-hander R.A. Dickey's scheduled start back one day to Saturday, allowing them to break up Dickey and left-hander Mark Buehrle.
Hendriks went 2-13 with a 6.06 ERA in 30 games over three seasons with Minnesota before Toronto claimed him off waivers from Baltimore in February. He was 5-0 with a 1.48 ERA in 10 games, including eight starts, at Buffalo this season.
Rogers had no record and a 6.97 ERA in 16 relief appearances with the Blue Jays this season.
