Baylor won't return as Rockies hitting coach

Don Baylor is being replaced as the Colorado Rockies hitting coach by former major league infielder Carney Lansford.

Baylor has been offered a special assistant role in the organization, and the club said he is considering that offer. Baylor, 61, was the Rockies hitting coach for the last two seasons, his second stint in Denver after serving as the club's first manager from 1993-98.

Lansford, 53, is the only addition to the major league coaching staff for next season. He was the hitting coach for the Rockies' Triple-A affiliate in Colorado Springs in 2007.

He spent 2008-09 as the San Francisco Giants hitting coach and has also worked in Oakland and St. Louis following his 15-year major league career.
