The Month of September for the Atlanta Braves Minor Leagues

As we don’t have a full month, I won’t do a typical position-by-position round up, but I’ll mention a number of guys who had excellent months on the hitting and pitching side and pick my player and pitcher of the month!

Now we come to my pitcher and hitter of the month…

Hitter of the month for August: While Rome’s championship squad had an elite pair of nominees in Didder and Riley, the easy choice for September was Sean Kazmar, who was simply the driving force behind the Gwinnett offense in the playoff, putting up a crazy .596 slugging percentage over the month with 3 home runs. Kazmar may not be an elite prospect and more org filler than anything, but for the month of September 2016, he was the king of Gwinnett.

Pitcher of the month for August: When Rome went to close out their two playoff series, they didn’t go to 2015 first rounders Kolby Allard or Mike Soroka. They didn’t turn to the guy likely blessed with the most elite raw “stuff” on the staff in Touki Toussaint. They went to their rotation “veteran” Max Fried, and he produced. Wow, did he produce! In only 3 starts in the month, he led the organization in innings with 19 1/3 innings thrown, tallying a 1.86 ERA and 0.88 WHIP with an amazing 5/34 BB/K ratio in that time.
