Astros to use Wallace as everyday 1B

Houston Astros rookie Brett Wallace made his third straight start at first base in the opener of a series against the St. Louis Cardinals, the team that originally drafted him in the first round.

Astros manager Brad Mills said Monday night that the left-handed-hitting Wallace will be an everyday player, with the exception of some tough left-handed pitchers. He said Wallace has the type of stroke that shouldn't give him much problem, but he also might use Carlos Lee at first.

Wallace was the Cardinals' first-round pick in 2008 as a third baseman but with a questionable arm. The Astros acquired him from Toronto and purchased his contract from Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday, when Lance Berkman was sent to the New York Yankees.
