Astros' Qualls set for brief rehab stint this week
Houston Astros reliever Chad Qualls has been sidelined with a pinched nerve in his neck since June 25, but he'll apparently head out on a rehab stint later this week.
Speaking with Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle over the weekend, manager A.J. Hinch said that Qualls is 'coming along great', adding that, "He threw a really good bullpen here in Boston, he played catch again today. So that’s very encouraging that we’ve solved the pain he had. We didn’t think it was going to last the whole 15 days he had (to be out), but it was necessary to put him on there given the rest of the roster.”
Qualls is eligible to be activated from the 15-day DL this coming Friday, and that might happen after he completes a brief rehab stint. With the Astros currently in Cleveland about to begin a series with the Indians, Qualls will report to Double-A Corpus Christi rather than go all the way to California to rehab with Triple-A Fresno.
