A's Parker gets 'best of the bad news', will have non-Tommy John elbow surgery Tuesday
As it turns out, the gruesome-looking elbow injury suffered by Oakland A's right-hander Jarrod Parker a few weeks back wasn't as debilitating as it appeared to be at first. Parker, attempting to work his way back from a second Tommy John operation, crumpled to the ground after delivering a pitch for Triple-A Nashville.
According to Joe Stiglich of CSN Bay Area, Parker was seen by Dr. James Andrews on Monday of this week, though, and the news isn't nearly as bad as it could have been. Namely, he will not require a third Tommy John operation. Instead, he'll go under the knife Tuesday to repair a fracture in the elbow. Said Parker on Twitter of the news:
Got the best of the bad news... Just a break that'll be fixed tomorrow! ??#11Believes

While pitchers having elbow operations is never an ideal circumstance, Parker is in a bit of a different situation since he already had two Tommy John surgeries - which already put him against long odds to make it back to the Majors as a functional pitcher.
The A's anticipate making an additional update about Parker after Tuesday's operation, but at the moment things seem to be more contextually optimistic for him (considering what COULD have happened).
