The Oakland A's have acquired third baseman Edwin Encarnacion from the Toronto Blue Jays on a waiver claim.

The 27-year-old Encarnacion hit 21 home runs with 51 RBI while batting .244 for Toronto last season.

He made his major league debut with Cincinnati in 2005 and is a career .258 hitter with 100 homers.

Toronto outfielder Dewayne Wise and left-handed pitcher Brian Tallet both became free agents Friday after declining assignments to Triple-A.
