AP Source: RHP Marmol agree to deal with Marlins
NEW YORK (AP) A person familiar with the deal tells The Associated Press reliever Carlos Marmol and the Miami Marlins have agreed to a $1.25 million, one-year contract.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity Thursday night because the Marlins hadn't announced a deal. The contract includes performance bonuses, the person said.
The 31-year-old right-hander has 117 saves in eight major league seasons but only two last year with the Cubs, who dealt him to the Los Angeles Dodgers in July. Last season he was 2-4 with a 4.41 ERA overall in 52 games, including 31 with Chicago.
An All-Star in 2008, Marmol is 23-32 with a 3.46 ERA, 730 strikeouts and 385 walks in 504 games - all but 21 with the Cubs.
Marmol will provide some security behind Steve Cishek, who had 34 saves last season.
