Angels bring in speedy Berry with minor-league deal

Published Dec. 9, 2015 1:47 p.m. ET

If you have the chance to sign a player with a nearly flawless stolen base stat line, why not do it?

The Los Angeles Angels did just that by reaching an agreement with Quintin Berry on a minor-league contract for 2016. They'll invite him to spring training where he'll presumably have a chance to earn a roster spot for next season.

Berry, 31, has spent parts of four seasons at the MLB level from 2012-2015, and has been caught stealing ONE time in that span (out of 33 attempts, including the postseason).

Here's a video of Berry nabbing a base in the 2013 World Series while a member of the Boston Red Sox, making him 29-29 in his career to that point:

Angels GM Billy Eppler summarized Berry's skill set simply when speaking about the deal with MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez, saying, "He can go. He can do some things."

He certainly can, and he could wind up earning a spot on the Halos' 2016 roster if things go his way this spring.
