In a widely expected move, the Washington Redskins severed ties with Robert Griffin III on Monday, ending a tumultuous run for the former Baylor QB and the club.
The move was confirmed by FOX Sports Insider Mike Garafolo.
Was due almost $6.5m this year. Will be 34 on opening day. Between him and RG3, Washington clearing space today. https://t.co/nOYJb1C8HM

RG3's tenure with the Redskins started off with so much promise. The No 2 overall pick in 2012, Griffin was named offensive Rookie of the Year and made the Pro Bowl, leading the Redskins to the playoffs with a seven-game winning streak to close out the season.
He's faltered since then as he's contended with coaching changes and injury. RG3 started 20 games in 2013 and 2014, with the Redskins winning just five of those. He was inactive for the entire 2015 season, and the team turned to Kirk Cousins, who was given its franchise tag last week.
It was a blessing guys. I just want to say thank you. pic.twitter.com/wzHbsRMlhL
