NEW YORK (AP) New York Red Bulls midfielder Dax McCarty has been chosen to his first All-Star Game as a replacement for injured New York City FC midfielder Frank Lampard.

McCarty, a 10-year MLS veteran, was selected Saturday by MLS Commissioner Don Garber for Wednesday's game in Commerce City, Colorado, against Tottenham Hotspur.

McCarty joined the Red Bulls in 2011 and has appeared in more than 100 matches for them. He captains the club that won the Supporters' Shield in 2013 and is on pace for its sixth straight MLS playoff appearance.

Lampard, the longtime English national team star and Chelsea's career leader in goals, joined New York City FC this month and was a commissioner's pick for the All-Star Game, but hasn't played yet because of a calf strain.
