30 years later, '85 Bears still remembered as one of NFL's best teams
Tuesday marked the 30th anniversary of the Chicago Bears' victory in Super Bowl XX. With that win, the 1985 Bears completed one of the most dominant seasons in NFL history.
To this date, that Bears team is widely regarded as one of the best ever. In celebration of the city's most recent league championship, the Chicago Sun-Times printed a throwback front page featuring a photo of Hall of Fame head coach Mike Ditka beneath a headline that reads "NUMBER 1!"

The Bears honored the '85 team, too, posting highlights of their 46-10 win over the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl.

Chicago went 15-1 in 1985, setting a franchise record for most wins in a single season. All-time great running back Walter Payton powered the offense, but these Bears were better known for their defense. They had 64 sacks, 34 interceptions, three safeties and five defensive touchdowns that season.
In addition to Ditka and Payton, the Bears had three other Hall of Famers -- linebacker Mike Singletary and defensive linemen Richard Dent and Dan Hampton -- on the roster in 1985. Dent was named MVP of Super Bowl XX, making him one of only nine defensive players to win the award.
Although the Bears won eight NFL Championships from 1921-1963, the 1985 season marks the franchise's only league title during the Super Bowl era. Chicago's only other appearance came after the 2006 season, when they lost, 29-17, to the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLI.
Until the Bears return to the game's biggest stage and win, the '85 team will be the most revered squad in the city of Chicago.
