Will Kevin Durant be swayed by Washington's new practice facility?

Published Sep. 16, 2015 3:08 p.m. ET

It's no secret that the Washington Wizards badly want to sign Kevin Durant next summer.

And beyond molding a quality basketball team that's competitive and able to win a title right away, the organization is confident their brand new practice facility will help convince Durant (and other free agents down the line) that Washington D.C. is the right option.

Here's more on the building, courtesy of ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk:

The Wizards have a lot riding on Durant's decision, but even if he chooses to stay in Oklahoma City, or prefers a more traditional NBA destination like Los Angeles or Miami, they will still be in pretty good shape to eventually convince other top free agents to join John Wall and Bradley Beal (barring a disaster) on a rising contender.

This shiny-new practice facility is more than icing on the cake, and Washington will be in a great spot after it's built.

The $55 million Entertainment and Sports Arena will serve as a practice facility for the Wizards, home court for the WNBA’s Mystics and venue for concerts and other entertainment that is estimated to attract as many as 380,000 people annually. And certainly Wizards fans will be hoping that the new facility will lure the biggest free-agent-to-be on the market next summer back home to D.C. -– Kevin Durant. The addition of a shiny new practice facility will be a nice perk for free agents to consider. The Wizards are positioned to be a contender for Durant, who was born in the District and went to high school in the area. The Wizards have been trying to maintain cap flexibility and are expected to have enough space to offer a maximum contract to a free agent next summer.
