Wacky (hypothetical) prop bets for the 2016-17 NBA season
When not defending Russell Westbrook’s point guard credentials to haters everywhere, Dar-Wei Chen is a grad student at Georgia Tech studying psychology. Yes, that means he’s analyzing you right now. Through your computer screen. He contemplates sports, science, bad wordplay, culture and better living at @chendw.
The seemingly-interminable slog through the NBA offseason continues, and it doesn’t even feel like the season is that close yet (although at least now there’s football to hold us over).
Most sports betting services haven’t even released their prop bets for the 2015-16 NBA season yet. The only bets widely available as of now are championship/conference odds and individual award odds such as MVP and Rookie of the Year. When the prop bets do eventually come out, the form they take is relatively predictable: Over/under points per game for Player X, over/under win totals for Team Y, etc.
Instead of the usual prop bets, I’ve come up with some offbeat ones that might be more interesting to think about, or at least create fun rooting interests during the upcoming season. From a heated battle between Russell Westbrook and Andre Drummond to Stephen Curry potentially out-shooting an entire team, let’s get to it.
