This is officially the worst season ever for NBA's top-market juggernauts

If you're one of the approximately 20 million people living in the greater Los Angeles and New York City areas, you probably suffered through some bad basketball at times this season. The Clippers and the Nets (well, kind of the Nets) offered some sort of a life raft during a season adrift, but Lakers and Knicks fans have seen a lot of losses in 2014-15.
It's been so many losses for those two teams, in fact, that records for futility have been set, and 2014-15 has officially become the worst regular season ever in both Lakers and Knicks franchise history.
The Knicks claimed that ignominious honor all the way back on March 28 against the Bulls. The 60th loss of the season for New York eclipsed the previous low of 59 losses set by four different Knicks teams, most recently in 2007-08.
At least New York has some experience with this kind of play, then. For the Lakers, this is a rock bottom that's been in the making for the past two years. Last season, the Lakers lost 55 games, which was the franchise record at the time and the first time the Lakers lost at least 50 games since 1974-75. And Sunday night, the Clippers handed the Lakers their 56th loss and made 2014-15 the worst Lakers season ever.
But good news, fans! There are only five games left in New York's season. Lakers fans, you'll have to watch this team for another six contests.
In the end, at least both teams have a lottery pick to look forward to -- assuming, of course, that the Lakers don't have to send their pick to the 76ers. And assuming that the Knicks don't trade their pick.
Losing out on the lottery pick that comes with such an awful year? That's the one thing that could make the official worst season in history even worse for these two teams.
