Report: There's mutual interest between Thibodeau and Pelicans

Published May. 18, 2015 1:32 p.m. ET

Chicago Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau is still under contract with his current employer for next season, but nobody expects him to stick around. Growing animosity between him and the organization's front office has created a situation where it'd be a near shock if Thibodeau was strolling the United Center's sideline next season.

But maybe he'll be somewhere else. According to ESPN's Marc Stein, New Orleans is one vacancy that already has its eyes on him:

"NBA coaching sources say there is unquestioned mutual interest between Thibodeau and the Pelicans, with Thibs naturally said to be very intrigued by the possibility of coaching Davis full-time after working with him last summer as a Team USA assistant alongside Williams under Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski."

Who wouldn't want to lead Anthony Davis? But being that Thibodeau has a close relationship with Monty Williams and is still technically under contract with Chicago, it's unclear just how likely it is for him to become the Pelicans next head coach.
