Report: Pelicans sign free agent center Kendrick Perkins
Beware, Houston Rockets: The so-called Dwight Howard stopper is now in the Southwest division.
ESPN.com's Marc Stein reports that the New Orleans Pelicans have signed free agent center Kendrick Perkins, most recently of the Cleveland Cavaliers, to a one-year deal for the veteran's minimum:
Make no mistake -- Perkins will see very little, if any, playing time for New Orleans. Both Omer Asik and Alexis Ajinca are back for the Pelicans, and coach Alvin Gentry has said that he will play Anthony Davis at center as well when he can.
Perkins, then, is mostly being brought on for his veteran leadership and all of that fun intangible stuff that you have someone like Perkins around for. He'll scowl, teach The Brow a thing or two, and be a sounding board for the young guys in New Orleans. For the veteran's minimum, why not?
