Report: Lakers promote Ryan West, son of Hall of Famer Jerry West

It's feeling like old times for the Los Angeles Lakers, as a man by the name of West is now at the head of the team's player personnel decisions.

Former Los Angeles Lakers great Jerry West famously built multiple dynasties in southern California after his playing days were over. But as things changed on the inside for the Lakers, West took a job with the Memphis Grizzlies and then the Golden State Warriors. Along the way, his son Ryan West learned the ins and outs of scouting and personnel decisions. Now, the younger West has been promoted to director of player personnel for the Lakers, according to the LA Times.

The Times reports that West, who started with the team as a scout in 2009, had been the team's assistant director of scouting. Ryan West also worked for the Grizzlies as a scout for eight years.

Eric Pincus of the Times reports that West was a major force behind the Lakers' acquisition of Jordan Clarkson in a 2014 draft-day trade.
