Report: Bynum draws Cavs' interest

Published Jul. 8, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

The Cleveland Cavaliers have reportedly entered the Andrew Bynum sweepstakes.

Crediting “sources close to the process,” ESPN.com reports that the Cavaliers have joined the Dallas Mavericks in pursuit of the free-agent center, “especially if the former Los Angeles Lakers All-Star is willing to sign a one-year deal.”

The report says that the Cavaliers don’t appear to be in position to offer Bynum more than a one-year deal in order to keep their salary cap in line for 2014.

The site reported last week that Dallas was pursuing Bynum, though it says the team is evaluating the 25-year-old’s health. Bynum was idle for the 76ers during the 2012-13 season as he battled ongoing knee problems. In March, he had arthroscopic surgery on both knees.

The 10th overall pick by the Lakers in 2005, Bynum has averaged 11.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game during his seven NBA seasons.
