Report: 76ers paid Pelicans $3 million for failing to disclose Holiday's injury history

Two years ago, the Philadelphia 76ers dealt All-Star point guard Jrue Holiday to the New Orleans Pelicans for two first-round draft picks that eventually became Nerlens Noel and Dario Saric.

Noel sat out his rookie season with a torn ACL and Saric will stay in Europe for at least one more year. But the Pelicans didn't get that great of a haul, either. Holiday has missed 90 games since coming to New Orleans, suffering a few serious, season-ending leg injuries.

And it appears Philadelphia may have known this was a possibility. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompey, the Sixers withheld pertinent information regarding Holiday's injury history, and the NBA has a big problem with that sort of thing:

"The 76ers were ordered to pay the New Orleans Pelicans $3 million by the NBA last season for not fully disclosing Jrue Holiday's injury history before he was traded two years ago, according to two sources. The Sixers traded Holiday, an all-star point guard, to the Pelicans on the night of the 2013 NBA draft for the rights to Nerlens Noel, the sixth overall pick that year. The sources said Holiday played with stress fractures in his lower right leg during his final season with the Sixers. However, the sources said, those injures weren't fully disclosed to the Pelicans. Sixers general manager Sam Hinkie declined to comment, but a Sixers team source disputed the allegation."

It should be said that New Orleans gave Holiday a physical before the trade became official. And they apparently found nothing wrong with him then. Philadelphia also says the allegation isn't true.
