Pistons exercise contract option on Stanley Johnson

Stanley Johnson was drafted 7th overall by the Detroit Pistons in the 2015 NBA draft. He signed a four year rookie scale contract last year that included team options in the third and fourth seasons.
The Detroit Pistons have exercised a team option for the 2017-18 season on Stanley Johnson. Johnson is currently in the second year of his four year deal and with this move, the Pistons will have Johnson on the books for at least the next two years. Assuming all goes well this season, the Pistons will most likely pick up his team option in his fourth year as well.
The Pistons liked what they saw from Johnson during his rookie season and believe he is part of their core players moving forward.
Stanley Johnson played his rookie season last year at the age of 19 in which he averaged 8.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists. Throughout the season he provided the Pistons with flashes of offensive and defensive potential.
He made 2.8 million last season and is due to make 2.9 million this season. The option that was exercised by the Pistons results in Johnson making 3.1 million next season.
The Pistons exercising Johnson’s contract option isn’t a surprise at all given his play last season and his intriguing potential. Heading into his sophomore season, Johnson will continue to become a bigger part of the Pistons rotation as he continues to improve.
