Pelicans run past Magic 101-82

Published Oct. 26, 2013 3:37 a.m. ET

Brian Roberts scored 21 points and Eric Gordon added 12 to lead the New Orleans Pelicans to a 101-82 rout of the Orlando Magic on Friday night.

New Orleans coach Monty Williams played what will likely be his regular-season starters to open both halves, while the Magic coach Jacque Vaughn gave extended minutes to training camp signees trying to make the roster.

New Orleans led by as many as 14 in the first half, but the game was tied at halftime. But the Pelicans recovered, riding a 52 percent shooting night (35 for 67) to separate themselves down the stretch.

Manny Harris led the Magic with 12 points, but was one of four players the Magic cut after the game to trim their roster. Also waived were forwards Romero Osby, Kris Joseph and center Mickell Gladness.

The roster now stands at 15 players, though the team is trying to buyout veteran forward Hedo Turkoglu's contract.

Orlando opens the regular-season Tuesday at Indiana. New Orleans hosts the Pacers on Wednesday.
