Oklahoma City Thunder: The pros of keeping Enes Kanter

By Asad Chevel
Enes Kanter signed an offer sheet by the Portland Trail Blazers this past week worth $70 million over four years. Furthermore, shortly after the announcement, general manager of the Oklahoma City Thunder Sam Presti said, “Our intention has been to match offers on Enes, and nothing has changed in this regard.” So it seems that the Thunder is willing to go the full nine yards to get the big man back in OKC. Taken that the Thunder will be matching the offer, we take a look at what Kanter and OKC benefit from in this scenario.
With all those pros, it seems that the Thunder can do no wrong with getting Kanter back on the roster. However, Kanter still needs to establish himself as a defensive center as well as prove to the Thunder that he will be happy playing for the team. With the new salary cap rules, Kanter seems to be hitting the jackpot with the opportunities that are on the table, and he may just be capitalizing on what is available. Regardless, the Thunder are going to bend over backward to get Kanter back, and he needs to see that OKC might just be the best overall fit for him moving forward — especially after Portland has just traded away four of its starting five players in the past week.
