NBA Rumors: A week removed from officially announcing his retirement, could Kevin Garnett be preparing to join the Cleveland Cavaliers’ coaching staff?

It hasn’t even been a week since he’s announced his retirement, yet it appears that Kevin Garnett is getting “the itch”.

No, he’s not contemplating a comeback, or at least not publicly, but he was seen working out with Los Angeles Clippers’ forward Blake Griffin.

Now, he has an open invitation from Ty Lue to join the Cleveland Cavaliers’ coaching staff.

Cleveland Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue said that Kevin Garnett, who retired from the Minnesota Timberwolves after 21 seasons last week, is welcome to join his coaching staff.

“I talked to him about it,” Lue said after Cavs practice Thursday. “I know his wife is pushing for it a lot. Brandi is pushing for it, trying to get him to come and coach. He says he’s not ready yet. He goes back — ‘I might do it’ — but he’s back and forth. We’ll see. But I’d definitely make a spot for him if he wanted to come back and coach.”

“He’s one of my best friends,” Lue said of Garnett.

Quite frankly, this wouldn’t be a bad move for Garnett. If he still wants to be around the game, and there’s no move for him to move into the Minnesota Timberwolves’ front office – where you’d think he’s eventually going to end up – then joining his friend in Cleveland sounds like a pretty appealing offer.

For as competitive as Garnett is, this would be the next best thing to playing one year too many in the NBA.

The biggest question is whether Garnett can see himself somewhere other than in Minnesota. We know how much he loves the Wolves and how much he desires to own them one day. However, with that simply not being viable at the moment (it appears), then perhaps it’s time to take on a Plan B?

Helping the coaching staff in Cleveland isn’t a bad first move post-career.
