NBA Rumors: With the expectation that Mo Williams will retire, the Cleveland Cavaliers should sign Mario Chalmers

The Cleveland Cavaliers have a huge need heading into the 2016-17 NBA season, even more so if Mo Williams in fact ends up retiring (as is being reported). While there’s a number of ways for the Cavs to address such void, there’s really only one real answer for Cleveland.

Mario Chalmers.

All kidding aside, is there a better situation out there right now for the two-time NBA Champion? Think…LeBron James, the spotlight, not being counted on for big minutes. This is it.

If Chalmers wants to ease his way back into action, after missing the latter portion of last season with a torn achilles, signing with the Cavs is the perfect way to go.

Question is, is it for the Cavs?

And that’s a legitimate question. The answer to that is yes. First of all, the familiarity is there, if nothing else between LeBron James and Chalmers (which is all that really matters).

Chalmers will be asked to defend second unit wings, which he can do, and hit open shots, which he can also do. If needed, he’s also shown the ability to hit the clutch shot and run the second-team offense.

Mario Chalmers was overlooked during his time with the Miami Heat. It was easy to do that with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh getting all the credit for making four-straight NBA Finals and winning two of them.

But Chalmers filled a role that was needed. Even though he had a Finals to forget in 2014, he deserves another shot on a contending team – especially on one that has a glaring need at the backup point guard spot.

If he’s healthy, and reports suggest that he is, there’s no reason for him to still be a free agent in this summer’s market.

Mario Chalmers deserves another shot, and the Cleveland Cavaliers are the perfect situation for him.
