Marc Gasol out for Grizzlies opener

Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol will miss the season opener against the Atlanta Hawks with a sprained left ankle.

Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins says 6-foot-9 forward Darrell Arthur will start at center Wednesday night. Hasheem Thabeet is expected to play off the bench.

Gasol did not participate in the team's shoot-around earlier Wednesday.

Hollins says that if Gasol cannot play on Thursday at Dallas, he probably won't play Friday's home game against Minnesota.

Gasol averaged 14.6 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per game last season.
