LAPD says there is a criminal rape investigation against Derrick Rose

The Los Angeles Police Department says there is an active criminal rape investigation against New York Knicks guard Derrick Rose.
In a letter obtained by ThinkProgress.org, the LAPD detective in charge of the case wrote a letter to the unnamed accuser's attorney attempting to clear up any notion that Rose is not under investigation.
Detective Nadine Hernandez says that the accuser maintaining her anonymity “is an invaluable investigative aid to investigators" and adds the LAPD intends to maintain that anonymity throughout the criminal investigation.
Rose has not been criminally charged in the case.
When the civil trial starts on Oct. 4, the accuser's name cannot remain anonymous as a Los Angeles judge ruled last week.
The woman, identified in court records as Jane Doe, sued Rose last year, saying that he and two of his friends raped her in August 2013. The accuser says she was incapacitated after a night of drinking and did not give consent.
Rose has denied those claims and said that the sex was consensual.
Rose will be entering his first season with the Knicks after being traded from the Chicago Bulls in the offseason. He is in the final season of a five-year $94.3 million deal and is scheduled to make $21.3 million in 2016–17.
