LA Clippers Rumors: Dorell Wright signing training camp deal

The LA Clippers are signing another player to a training camp deal, this time in the form of veteran small forward Dorell Wright.
Another day, and we have another player that’s emerged as someone joining the LA Clippers on a training camp deal. And, like the first, Xavier Munford, it’s a player who has no real chance of making the Clippers’ full roster.
Dan Woike of the Orange County Register has reported that Dorell Wright, a 30-year-old, journeyman small forward, is being signed on a training camp deal.
Except for a brief appearance with the Miami Heat for 19 minutes in the playoffs this year, Wright hasn’t appeared on court since 2014-15 as a member of the Portland Trail Blazers. During two seasons with the team, Wright was fairly effective from three, but failed to shoot above 37.9 percent overall in either season.
It’s as a three-point where Wright has found his value in the past, recording career-highs of 16.4 points and 2.4 made threes per game (at a 37.6 percent rate) in 2010-11 with the Golden State Warriors.

After almost a year out of the league bar a few playoff minutes, though, Wright’s best chance of making a team now comes down to an ability to play between both forward sports. As sought after as wing players are (the Milwaukee Bucks know all about that after Khris Middleton’s hamstring tear), Wright shifting his 6’9″ frame to power forward to help spacing is something that teams will be interested in.
For the Clippers, though, Wright just doesn’t fit. Simply because there isn’t room. Luc Mbah a Moute, Wesley Johnson, possibly Paul Pierce and Alan Anderson will be taking the minutes at small forward.
Meanwhile, when shifting to the four, there’s superstar Blake Griffin, and new acquisitions Brandon Bass and rookie Brice Johnson, not to mention smaller lineups with the team’s existing small forwards.
Wright, like Xavier Munford, will join the LA Clippers for training camp. There may be something Doc Rivers is interested in and he could have a roster change in mind, possibly if he believes Pierce will retire. Even still, though, the likelihood of Wright making the current team is low to say the least.
