How Thaddeus Young is adjusting to life in Brooklyn

Over the offseason, Thaddeus Young became the first Net to live in Brooklyn since the team picked up from New Jersey and took its business to New York City.

The organization as a whole is yet to make the full migration, though. The Nets' practice facility and offices are still in East Rutherford, N.J. They still operate on a daily basis in Jersey far more often than in Brooklyn. In fact, pretty much the only thing the Nets actually do in Brooklyn is play 41 games a year. It's certainly an inconvenience for players. So, like many Nets, Young lived in Jersey last year and commuted to games from there.

But with the team's new practice facility due to open in Brooklyn at some point in the next calendar year, you'd imagine the guys would start immigrating East. Young is starting the trend.

Here's more from Tim Bontemps of the New York Post:

Young isn't living too far from Barclays Center, but that doesn't mean he'll be walking or cabbing. He's an unconventional guy, and he's going to be doing unconventional things.

“I’ll get a Citi Bike,” he said, via Bontemps. “That’s what I’ll do. There’s one of those right outside my condo."

“I recall having a conversation with a few people and they were asking me about the commute, and it was brutal,” said Young, who has a condo in Brooklyn Heights. “Coming from Jersey trying to get to games, it was brutal.

“I would rather commute [to the team’s New Jersey facility] for practice, as opposed to going from Jersey all the way over to Barclays [for games].”

While some players, including former Net Mason Plumlee, had considered making the move before this summer, Young became the first to do it, and said he’s very much looking forward to the scheduled February completion of the team’s new practice facility on the waterfront in Industry City.

From then on, Young’s commute to practice will be dramatically shortened.

“I can’t wait,” Young said with a smile. “I hate long drives.

“It’s crazy [here], especially the traffic. The traffic is brutal here, but you get used to it, I guess.”
