Houston Rockets Video Diary - Practice: Patrick Beverley

Following practice for the Houston Rockets training camp session Patrick Beverley discussed his off season work.
While most of the Houston Rockets were able to play five on five in the second practice session Patrick Beverley was limited due to a minor foot injury. However, you would never know that was case as he spoke to reporters following the September 24th practice session with sweat literally dripping off him.
Then again, this is the same Patrick Beverley who undertook a very diligent offseason workout plan to shed weight.

Beverley noted he had lost 8 pounds and wanted to lose another 5 pounds by the time camp was over. Asked how he lost the weight other than via the typical cardio route, Patrick noted he switched his diet up. He only ate carbs in the morning and then went with veggies and a lot of chicken and fish. Juicing has also been added to his plan lately.

Ultimately Beverley felt the extra weight he carried last season led to his inability to play at a high level. Noting his foot speed, lethargy and even his propensity to get injured were all side effects of of the extra weight. Sitting out 6 months to injury is why he gained the weight, says he lost between 14 and 16 pounds during last season.
From an outsiders perspective it would be fair to say it also slowed his ability to slide laterally and defend at the same level as previous seasons.
Beverley noted the summer workouts with the entire team have helped to get the team up to speed on the defense and other fundamentals quicker.
