First lady to join LeBron James at University of Akron event

AKRON, Ohio (AP) First lady Michelle Obama will join Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James at an event highlighting the importance of post-secondary education hosted at the University of Akron.

Officials say Obama will use the platform to speak about her Reach Higher campaign, which encourages students to aim for more than just a high school diploma.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1k8NBbu ) the event, scheduled for Oct. 21 on the northeast Ohio school's campus, will be closed to the public.

Thousands of students and parents affiliated with the LeBron James Family Foundation's Wheels for Education program and the Akron I Promise Network will be in attendance.

The Akron native's foundation recently partnered with the school to provide free college education to any of the 2,300 students enrolled in the foundation's I Promise program.
