Dwane Casey 'wasn't worried' about losing his job despite struggles
This was a disappointing season for the Toronto Raptors, if only because it started out so well. When their offense cratered back to earth and their defense was nowhere to be found, some wondered whether it would be Dwane Casey's last season as head coach of the team. Instead, the Raptors are keeping Casey, and as he told Sportsnet's the FAN, he was never worried about his job security.
"'I wasn't worried about my job, never have been, never will be,' said Casey. 'Masai has every right to look at the entire organization, (like) the coaching staff, and evaluate everything that we've done as a staff and as a team but I think, if we're all honest with ourselves, and look where we come from and look how the growth process is going, we're going in the right direction. I think it's what the evaluation process shows.'"
Casey admitted that this year was a step back for the Raptors, but that it didn't necessarily undo all of their progress from the year before. Overall, Casey's right – despite the regression, the Raptors still appear to be on the right track. The team can still get better, be it through internal improvement, the draft, or trades, and play in the still-weak Eastern conference. As long as they have that going for them, they'll be fine.
