Draymond Green named Western Conference Player of the Week

Golden State Warriors big man Draymond Green was named the NBA Western Conference Player of the Week for games played on Monday, Dec. 28, through Sunday, Jan. 3, the NBA announced on Monday.

Green averaged 18.8 points, 11.3 rebounds and 9.5 assists last week, leading the Warriors to a 3-1 record (with Stephen Curry sitting out two of those games).

The Warriors' power forward posted back-to-back triple-doubles for the second time this season, and was finally recognized for his efforts. He was thrilled upon hearing of the news, as he had hoped to win the award the first time he posted consecutive triple-doubles, according to the Contra Costa Times:

"It's pretty amazing," he said. "It's a blessing. I did it before (back-to-back triple-doubles earlier in the season) and it didn't quite work out for me. It did this time."

The award is Green's first career weekly accolade, marking the fourth time a Warrior has won this season (Curry was named Player of the Week three times earlier this season) and making him the 19th Warrior overall. Green is the first Warrior to post back-to-back triple doubles twice in one season, and the first in the NBA in eight years (LeBron James and Jason Kidd in 2007-08).

Brooklyn Nets center Brook Lopez was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
