Detroit Pistons/Kentavious Caldwell-Pope hope to react new deal soon

The Detroit Pistons hope to sign Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Reggie Bullock before the October 31st deadline. Good news Pistons’ fans, both sides want to get a deal done.
The Detroit Pistons have been very open about wanting to get a new contract done for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, but the time frame has always been a bit cloudy.
After an offseason of speculation, Jeff Bower said that the organization has been talking with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope’s agent about a new deal, and that the talks would go “a little bit further” through the month.
As a bonus, Bower has also had identical conversations with Reggie Bullock’s agent.
Detroit Pistons general manager Jeff Bower said today the organization has had preliminary discussions with the camps of both players, and said talks will continue.
“We’re probably continue to take those talks a little bit further through the month and see if there’s an opportunity to reach an extension now and if we can, that will be great for both of us,” Bower said during media availability.
“If we can’t, we’ll go into next summer.”
Bower said both players are very open to long-term commitments with the Pistons.
“We have had some discussions with the representatives and they both know the value that we have on them as far as the organization and their growth potentially down the road,” Bower said. “We’re all in agreement that it’s an atmosphere and environment they really have good thoughts about.”
Short of the Pistons officially announcing contract extensions with both players, this couldn’t be any better news.
The fact that both players are “very open” to long-term commitments bodes well for a deal getting done soon.
The Pistons’ fan base has always been split about Caldwell-Pope. If he really signs a deal in the $20 million per year range that will likely only further split the fan base.
I’m a big Caldwell-Pope supporter. He’s young, talented, hard working, and I think he can be one of the best shooting guards in the league.
I’d wager that other teams around the NBA feel the same and would be willing to offer up a max contract next offseason.
It makes sense to sign Caldwell-Pope now.
As for Bullock, I doubt he can replicate his efficiency late last season, but I like him as a rotational player too.
If both players get extensions before the deadline I would be ecstatic.
