The preseason wrapped up this past Friday night with the Denver Nuggets coming out on top of the Dallas Mavericks 101-75.

This is a nice way to end the preseason, a long eight game preseason. This game against Dallas had a very slow feel to it so making too many big observations may be a bit dangerous. Nonetheless this game has some outcomes that can be spotted for the home team, the Denver Nuggets.

There is a lot of warranted optimize about this team’s potential as the season opener is just right around the corner. Unanswered questions also exist. If unanswered questions turn to positives there is going to be a buzz about Mile High Basketball going into the winter months.

These questions should arise and hurt the overall chemistry of the team. Things such as trade rumors and consecutive losses will burden this team if they can not get off of the ground quickly.

Ill Will- Wilson Chandler

In more than one interview Coach Malone has stated that having Wilson Chandler on the floor is like having a free agent signing. Malone believes that Chandler checks more boxes than any other player on the roster.

Although last nights game was slow-paced without much emotion Chandler stood out. The eight-year pro from DePaul University looks to be healthy and in great shape. This is great to see after last season was a lost season due to a hip injury and surgery.

Chandler is a  player with a high basketball IQ that was really involved on both ends of the floor. Even pointing out defensive assignments in transition. So Chandler does check a lot of boxes that includes a heady game with leadership.

Wilson Chandler had 14 points on six of eight shooting in 21 minutes last night. He had several slashing moves to the rim, excelled in the pick and roll, has a lot of physical strength in the low post, and can be a defensive stopper. He also looks very confident with his outside jump-shot. A healthy Chandler will fill up a stat sheet.

There will be nights that him and Danilo Gallinari will be on the floor at the same time. This should open up opportunities for both players. Watching Chandler last night showed why the Nuggets are really high on his potential and excited to see where his game is in a couple of weeks.

The Florida State Standout- Malik Beasley

Malik Beasley is out of Florida State and is one of the young Nuggets. Drafted at number 19 at the age of 19 he is very young and raw. He is also a great kid as evidenced by his taking time out during training camp in Omaha, Nebraska and volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club. How he fits into the Nugget’s immediate plans is an unknown.

More from Nugg Love

Last night he got some early minutes with the second unit. I thought he looked tentative and undecided.

Yes, he looked like many rookies did this preseason. I could see Malik struggling to get minutes and may have to develop his game in the Development  League during this season. There is nothing wrong with this the Nuggets have plenty of depth at his position.

So that is negative about his game but now a look at his positives.

If anyone caught the garbage minutes of this Nuggets victory seen the potential in Malik Beasley. 11 points, 3 rebounds, and a assists in 20 minutes, He can play and as he learns the requirements for NBA success this 19-year-old kid should contribute to the rotation in next couple of years. He has a lot of athletic ability and this ability allows him to drive and hang in the air with his jumper. This move was very effective in the fourth quarter.

Yes there are positives and questions as we ready for the tip-off of the season. Most of the NBA teams also have positives and negatives.

Malik is young and raw and Chandler has IQ and ability to check boxes. Nugget’ fan should be ready to watch the season opener in New Orleans and see how it all plays out!

It was just a brief insight to our some of the players are doing, and we hope you continue to follow Nugg Love throughout this season.
