Charlotte Hornets’ shooting guard, Jeremy Lamb, will be out 1-2 weeks with a left hamstring strain that he suffered against the Boston Celtics.

Only a few games into the 2016-17 season and the Charlotte Hornets have already been hit with the injury bug. Jeremy Lamb is the latest player to go down with an injury as he will miss the next one to two weeks with a left hamstring strain. The good news is that it doesn’t appear to be too serious. He joins Roy Hibbert, who is dealing with some minor knee discomfort, on the injury report.

Lamb suffered the injury in the team’s third regular season game against the Boston Celtics. It was the Hornets’ home opener and after finishing off a nice back-door cut and dunk, Jeremy landed wrong and seemed to be in some pain. He left the game in the second quarter and didn’t return after heading back to the locker room.

The 6’5 shooting guard provides energy and scoring with Charlotte’s second unit. Although Steve Clifford only played him for nine minutes in the team’s opening game, Lamb was able to score 16 points in 22 minutes against the Miami Heat in their second. He was having a decent outing in the third game before suffering the hamstring strain.

Hamstring injuries are always tough to gauge for players. They could be gone in a week or they could hobble someone for months. Hopefully, it is the former for Jeremy and he can get back on the court soon. The Hornets don’t want a repeat of what happened last year in terms of serious injuries.

In three games this season, the 24-year old has averaged 7.0 points per game, 4.0 rebounds per game, and 1.0 assists per game. He has also shot 39.1% from the field and 75% from the free throw line. He has only played in 13.7 minutes per game but that seemed to be trending upward after his breakout performance against the Heat.

Here’s a look at the play where Lamb appeared to have suffered the injury:

If the injury only keeps Jeremy out for one week, then he might only miss two or three games. But if it lingers, then he could miss some pivotal matchups against the Toronto Raptors and the Cleveland Cavaliers this month. It is only the beginning of the season but injuries are never fun for anyone.

With Lamb out, expect to see Marco Belinelli get increased minutes as the back-up shooting guard/small forward. Treveon Graham may also get some playing time in a limited fashion. The Charlotte Hornets don’t have a lot of depth at the wing positions but they have enough to get by.
