Cavaliers' Moon to miss 3 weeks

Published Jan. 5, 2010 8:39 p.m. ET

Cleveland's Jamario Moon is expected to miss at least three weeks with a left abdominal strain.

Moon, signed as a free agent last summer from Miami, is averaging 5 points and 3.5 rebounds as a reserve for the Cavaliers.

Coach Mike Brown said Moon could likely play through the injury, but the team is being cautious. Brown wouldn't even let Moon shoot free throws at the end of Tuesday's practice.

``We'll shut him completely down for about 10 days and then re-evaluate it,'' Brown said. ``He probably could play, he definitely could shoot. We just don't want it to flare up during the latter part of the season.''

The latest injury is unrelated to the right abdominal strain Moon suffered earlier this season, the team said.

Moon's injury could mean more playing time for Daniel Gibson, who has been in and out of the rotation this season.

Cleveland (27-9) hosts Washington (10-21) on Wednesday.
