Calderon misses Knicks' opener with calf injury

Published Oct. 29, 2014 7:34 p.m. ET

NEW YORK (AP) Jose Calderon was scratched from the New York Knicks' lineup because of a strained right calf, leaving Shane Larkin as the starter at point guard against Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls.

The Knicks announced Calderon's absence Wednesday shortly after coach Derek Fisher had said the Spaniard would start. Calderon sat out the last two preseason games after getting hurt early in an Oct. 20 contest, but Fisher said he had increased his workload in recent days.

Calderon and Larkin came together from Dallas in the June trade that sent Tyson Chandler to the Mavericks.

Also, Amare Stoudemire started at forward after coming off the bench in all but one preseason game.
