Buzz City Beat: Charlotte Hornets Look to Put Overtime Loss to New Orleans Behind Them

Welcome to Buzz City Stings, Swarm and Sting’s daily roundup of the best Charlotte Hornets’ stories from around the web.
Buzz City Stings is your daily destination for the latest and best news from around the internet about the Charlotte Hornets. After a disappointing loss to Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans, the team’s looking to put that behind them. In this edition, Hornets lose their identity in overtime loss, Dwight Howard is unapologetic after elbowing Cody Zeller, and Christian Wood and Aaron Harrison continue to sign in D-League.
AD and Pelicans Defeat Hornets in Overtime
“He scored eight of his 38 points in the overtime period to lead New Orleans to a 121-116 win against Charlotte.” (theadvocate.com)
It may seem simple but this was the story of the game. The Hornets dropped a winnable game to the lowly Pelicans because Anthony Davis willed his team to a victory. His double-double performance with 38 points and 16 rebounds dominated every Charlotte big man and he forced his presence upon the game. The Buzz City team had no answer for the all-star center.

Charlotte Lose Identity in Loss to New Orleans
Howard Unapologetic Towards Zeller
“To summarize, they got sloppy and undisciplined. The team that commits the fewest turnovers in the NBA committed 15 Saturday. The team that is typically so strong in transition defense allowed 23 fast-break points. The team that has been solid this season in closing out on perimeter shooters gave up 14 3-pointers.” (CharlotteObserver.com)
One thing about a Steve Clifford coached team is their sense of identity. They come out and play the same way every night, win or lose. Not this time. The Charlotte Hornets played out of character and it led to their eventual downfall against the Pelicans.
Wood and Harrison Shine in Greensboro Swarm Loss to Knicks
“Swarm forward Aaron Harrison led all scorers in the game with 23 points, completing a double-double with 10 rebounds and an additional four steals. Forward Christian Wood had a double-double of his own with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while center Mike Tobey finished with 13 points and eight rebounds.” (dleague.nba.com)

Despite losing yet another game to fall to 0-4 on the season, there were some bright spots for the Swarm against the Knicks. Assignees, Christian Wood and Aaron Harrison, each recorded a 20-10 double-double. Wood finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds while Harrison scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Howard Unapologetic After Elbowing Zeller
“Before the possession that ended with the hit on Zeller, Howard appeared to get frustrated with him at the other end of the court when he got boxed out on a free throw. “It wasn’t like I tried to hit him in the face,” Howard said after the game, “but my job is to protect my house at all costs. I am making no apologies for it. I can’t do nothing but live with it.” Asked if he thought the foul was flagrant, Howard responded, “It’s basketball.”” (ESPN.com)
Even though Cody Zeller agreed that the play wasn’t that bad, it wasn’t clean by any means. The elbow from Howard wasn’t inadvertent. He knew what he was doing and he put it straight into Zeller’s face. It being a flagrant two was debatable but there is no argument that it wasn’t intentional.
