In this edition, we look at Marco Belinelli filling Jeremy Lin‘s void and a chat with Roy Hibbert.

Hornets Drop Back to Back Games to Open Road Trip

“Walker scored a season-low 12 points, missing 12 of his 16 shots. It didn’t help that teammates struggled offensively. Small forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist missed eight of his first nine shots and power forward Frank Kaminsky started out 1 of 7. The loss left the Hornets 14-11 overall and 0-2 so far in this five-game road trip. The Hornets will next play the Wizards in Washington on Wednesday night. The Pacers improved to 13-12.” (CharlotteObserver.com)

Charlotte played poorly all night but still had a chance to defeat Indiana in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately for the Hornets, Paul George, Myles Turner, and Jeff Teague had other plans as their stellar play down the stretch led the Pacers to a big home win. Steve Clifford’s side has now dropped two straight games away from home to open up their five-game road trip. The biggest takeaway may have been Kemba Walker as he played through a knee injury and was held to a season-low 12 points.

    Belinelli Filling Jeremy Lin’s Role

“Marco Belinelli isn’t the same player Jeremy Lin was – not by a longshot. Still, he’s stepped into Lin’s role as the primary bench scorer and exceeded expectations. As the season moves forward, his play will continue to be crucial to a Charlotte team with hopes of making a run in the postseason.” (HashtagBasketball.com)

Jeremy Lin was something else with the Hornets’ second unit last season. While Marco may not be on that level just yet, he has provided a nice spark off the bench as the most consistent player with the second unit. His great shooting and all-around play has been a pleasant surprise. It has helped make the loss of Lin less noticeable and the negative impact hasn’t been as bad as it could’ve been.

    Chat With Roy Hibbert

“(Charlotte) Coach Clifford is also known for his defense, much like Frank (Vogel) was. Have you noticed many similarities?

We stress defense in the same ways: being able to contain the ball, protect the rim, and limit offensive rebounding. He’s a defensive-minded coach and offensively, he’s gifted in terms of the way he wants us to move the ball.” (VigilantSports.com)

Although, he was mostly positive and had great things to say about his current and former team, Big Roy didn’t have a lot to say after his six point performance against his old squad. Hibbert’s first quarter season with the Charlotte Hornets has been up and down but he is finding his way with the team. Check out the full interview to see everything he discussed after the disappointing loss.
