Brooklyn Nets: Week 8 Outlook, The Return Of Lin

The loss of Jeremy Lin has truly been devastating to this Nets team. They started 2-3 with him, but have only found 4 wins since then, sitting at 6-16 on the season. Their week will be tough, but manageable, after a week that they went 1-2.

The Brooklyn Nets will play four games this week, only one of them I would say would be an almost guaranteed loss, but as we all know, anything could happen. If the Nets could find a couple of wins this week, maybe they could grab some momentum moving forward.

Last week wasn’t terrible for the Nets. They went 1-2 and looked pretty good in their games against the Washington Wizards and the Denver Nuggets. Their first game of the week was against the Wizards in Brooklyn and although they lost, they made it interesting as usual.

For the most part, their next game went pretty similarly against the Nuggets, except they came out on the winning side of things. However. it wasn’t even close in their game in San Antonio against the Spurs. It looked like the Nets were going to give them a run for their money, but right before the end of the first, the Spurs went on a 12-0 run to go from 29-26 to 41-26.

Next week will start off rocky against the Houston Rockets who have looked unstoppable this month. Next on the list are the Los Angeles Lakers, Orlando Magic, and Philadelphia 76ers who are all team that the Nets can compete with.

Let’s take a closer look at next weeks games.

I have a feeling that this will be a good week for Nets basketball. It might not get off to the easiest start, but I think that Nets fans will be happy with the results. Here are my predictions for week 8 of Nets basketball.

Brooklyn Nets @ Houston Rockets

This is going to be one of their toughest games of the year, especially playing the Rockets on the road. The Rockets possess one of the best offensive attacks in the league, and have the defense to back them too, so it is a recipe for disaster for this Nets team.

My prediction: Nets get trampled by the Rockets.

Los Angeles Lakers @ Brooklyn Nets

The Lakers have been on quite a losing streak up to date, dropping all of their last 6 games, so they are still winless in December. The Nets need to take advantage of that. This is their opportunity for a win against what I still believe is a good team. This is Brooklyn’s first step in turning things around.

My prediction: Nets get a much needed win, and gain some momentum moving forward.

Brooklyn Nets @ Orlando Magic

The Magic have been on and off in their last few games, going on a 3 game losing streak right after a 3 game winning streak. Being away from home will put the Nets at a disadvantage, but I still think the Nets will get another win before the end of the week.

My prediction: The game will stay close throughout, but the Nets will finish it off.

Brooklyn Nets @ Philadelphia 76ers

I don’t care what their record says, the 76ers aren’t an easy win. They are similar to the Nets, where they compete until the very end of the game, but they are inconsistent. One game, they will compete with the Cavaliers until the very end, then the next they will get blown out by the Magic. They looked good this last week and I think they will take advantage of the Nets.

My prediction: The 76ers get the best of the Nets in the middle of their three game road trip.

Who To Watch For

The Nets have proven to have a lot of depth and now they need to show that they could produce on all fronts. Every game seems to be dominated by a different player. Brook Lopez is always a player this team can rely on and with other players backing him like Bojan Bogdanovic and Sean Kilpatrick, the Nets could become a real threat in the East.

Player To Watch For: Jeremy Lin

Lin is probable to play against the Rockets on Monday, which will be huge for the Nets. What to watch for above everything would be his role on the team. It isn’t clear whether he will be introduced to a full workload in his first game back, so that will be my priority in what to watch for. Another thing to watch for is how he produces, obviously. The Nets need him to put up big numbers, so hopefully he comes back and does just that.

Player Who Needs To Step Up: Bojan Bogdanovic

He has stepped up in a huge way in the last few endeavors for the Nets and he needs to continue to do just that. In my mind, with Lin back, he is Brooklyn’s third option in this offense. If Bogdanovic continues to improve, the Nets would have a formidable trio of Lin, Lopez and Bogdanovic.
