Blake Griffin reportedly leaves Team USA to heal broken back

Published Jul. 29, 2014 1:00 a.m. ET

Blake Griffin won't be playing for Team USA in the FIBA World Cup for a most serious reason: He has a small fracture in his back, ESPN.com reported.

If the Los Angeles Clippers All-Star forward is going to be ready for next season, he had better skip international play this summer, doctors reportedly told him. With rest, Griffin should be good to go this fall.

ESPN.com said Griffin stuffered the injury in the playoffs. We would have guessed it had something to do with a jetpack. Or doing backflips into the Adriatic Sea.
